DKE

Industry at DKE focuses on systems and products used in the industrial sector. The central topic here is automation. In the factories of the future, intelligent machines exchange information with each other and intelligent objects to autonomously coordinate processes and deadlines. The most modern information and communications technologies allow for the integrated management of processes and products throughout their entire life cycle.

Here, standardization is the basis for functional safety, reliability of systems and operator safety. It ensures that vastly different systems can communicate with each other and work together interoperatively without problems.

The norming and standardization of industrial products is a guarantee for quality, reliability, and safety. This significance is made clear, particularly by the fact that every year, 15 to 20 billion euros are saved as a result of efficiency increases and rationalization due to standardization.

The German economy is strongly oriented on exports. Standardization makes a major contribution toward national and international competitiveness: It provides legal certainty and allows the German economy to thus develop new markets with new technologies.

The standardization in the industry sector is divided into two areas: On the one hand, industrial products with a focus on compatibility and safety. Here, the industry department supports all classic industrial sectors like the electronics industry, the chemical industry, the mining and coal industry and the steel industry in creating standards and specifications. On the other, however, pioneering, modern technologies are taken up. This includes, for instance, digitalization of industrial processes or introducing modern cyber-physical methods. Further current topics include artificial intelligence, obsolescence management and Industry 4.0.
