2020 Electric Mobility Standardization Roadmap

The objective of the German 2020 Electric Mobility Standardization Roadmap is to illustrate and address the concrete status and need for action in standardization and certification to further develop electromobility.

Core topics of the standardization roadmap

Roland Bent, Chair of the DKE Steering Committee, has already highlighted the importance of standardization for electromobility: “The users want customer-friendly access to the next charging station with a simple payment system. This requires standardized charging interfaces as well as transparent and non-discriminatory billing models. This can only be achieved with uniform standards. They provide for investment security, for instance, for manufacturers, energy providers or charging station operators.”

The 2020 Electric Mobility Standardization Roadmap and its content are considered an important instrument to embed electromobility in a user-oriented overall system. The core and cross-sectional topics include wired charging, charging at higher charging capacities, wireless charging of electrical vehicles and information and communications technologies.

The current standardization work in the field of electromobility is presented and, in particular, the current state of the requirements for safety, vehicle technology and charging interfaces are summarized.

Finally, the 2020 Electromobility Standardization Roadmap and its contents make a major contribution toward offering users and all interested parties in this segment orientation and to network the segments that are so important for electromobility.

About the objective and significance of the standardization roadmap

The objective of standardization roadmaps is to inform the stakeholders in the respective subject area of important basic requirements and assist them in meeting them. To achieve this, standardization roadmaps provide an overview of the respective technology topic, in this case electromobility, and the related standardization landscape and its organizational and content-related further development.

For electromobility, standardization roadmaps also allow for the systematic processing of convergent technologies (cross-committee complex topics) and act as a basis for discussion and exchange between the experts from various domains (e.g. automotive, IT, energy). They thus provide for better understanding because they provide all of the participants the same foundation and offer new committee members a subject-related introduction.

Particularly with respect to important subject areas like electromobility, standardization roadmaps emphasizes the need for early development and the significance of the topic of full consensus standardization.

Electromobility is a leap innovation that requires new, overarching systems thinking. In order to position the German economy successfully in the field of mobility, it is important to incorporate the positive effects of norms and standards into the development process from the very beginning and thus fully exploit them. The same applies to the latest developments in the field of mobility - micro-mobility. You can find further content on this subject area in the
